Attendance Reminder

As a reminder, I take attendance every Monday morning for work posted to the blog the previous week.  There are 2 attendance records that I have to record.

At 4 absences the college may administratively withdraw you from the class.

From Administration:

05/16/2023

Dear Colleagues,

We ask that you please take a few minutes to read through our current policy, written to conform with Financial Aid's federal reporting regulations. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to contact us. Remember, faculty must mark students either Present or Absent; there are no Excused Absences in the Accelerated Degree Program.

  1. Financial Aid regulations require that class attendance be taken twice each week for fully online, hybrid, and traditional classes. For online classes, attendance should be taken on Mondays and another day of the professor's choosing. For hybrid classes, attendance should be taken for the in-class session and another day of the professor's choosing. To ensure that accurate attendance is being taken, please contact Jennifer Snow (jmsnow@albertus.edu) this week to let her know the second day you will be choosing to take class attendance. For example, for a fully online course, you can take attendance on Monday and Saturday each week. However, in order to set this up, you must contact Jennifer.
  2. Students are administratively withdrawn after missing four consecutive class sessions. (This can happen at the beginning, the middle, or up to the 7th week of a course.) Once a student has hit this marker, the student will be taken out of the course, and Financial Aid will immediately do a R2T4 calculation to send back funds. Auditors pay very close attention to these students.
  3. Attendance in an online or hybrid course is determined by whether a student is actively participating in the course (forum, journal, paper, online quiz, etc.), preferably in eLearning. Logging into a course in eLearning is not considered attendance. A student must submit work, assignments, or be actively participating; otherwise, he or she should be marked absent.
  4. A reminder is being sent out to students that they must use their Albertus email address (and check it frequently) to receive college correspondence. When students have two consecutive absences, an auto-generated warning email will be sent to them. At three absences, students will receive an auto-generated email with a CC to the faculty member, letting them know that if they miss one more session, they will be administratively withdrawn. After four consecutive absences, they have no recourse.
  5. A reminder will also be sent to students that they should get in the habit of checking their attendance in myAlbertus. If they believe they are mistakenly being marked absent for a course, they will need to address this with the professor ASAP.

As always, thank you to all for your continued support and cooperation in addressing attendance issues. If you are ever concerned about a student and would like advice, please feel free to contact me to discuss options (especially before the student receives four consecutive absences).

Sincerely,

June M. Sangapore

Associate Dean for Student Success and Retention
