Jessie Schreck: Week 3 - By The Sea

Below are a few of my favorite photos from this past week, mostly captured along the Connecticut River. I tried to incorporate the light occurring at dawn and dusk, as it provides unique and dramatic coloring and contrasts. I also found that the water appeared the most still and calm at dawn, an element that I personally enjoyed.

Water Lily: Taken at a local pond in Deep River, CT, from a low angle, close to the water with the focus on the only flower (in the foreground). I tried to select the flower and amplify the color.

Spider Web: Another shot close to the subject, taken at a town dock on the Connecticut River, with a blurred background of highly contrasted reflection and shadow.

Sand: Incorporating different textures (gritty sand and smooth glass-like water) in the morning sun, again along the bank of the Connecticut River.

River Fog: A rising sun burning off the morning fog and low hanging clouds. A nice dark, silhouette of a wooded island on the right side of the frame contrasts well with the bright orange. Deep River, CT.

Lone Boat: I chose black and white for this photo to draw the viewer's attention to the stillness of the water and the way in which it transitions from dark black on the bottom of the frame to bright white at the horizon (on the right).

  1. Beautiful! That is impressive that you were up at dawn to take these. Dawn is around 4:30 am these days. The light and calm is spectacular though and the early morning mist add so much to the scene.

  2. I was not up at 4:30am, but I did capture the photos in the early morning.
